CLASS CURRICULUM
Reading - Open Court Pre-K Reading Program through a state grant award. Mayo Nursery School introduced the Open Court Reading Program in 2006. This is the pre-school version of the same program that is used throughout all of Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
The 4-year-old classes are introduced to new words and are given small, paper books called Decodeables. These Decodeables focus on common site words. The program also utilizes various materials to teach children letters and sounds that they make.
When Mayo Nursery School students graduate to kindergarten, they are extremely well prepared and already familiar with the reading program. The childen enjoy learning to read and love to take their books home to read to parents, family and friends.
